HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE A CT SCAN?
According to the indications, there is no approved limit on the permissible number of studies on a cone-beam computed tomograph (both according to international regulatory documents and according to the provisions adopted in the Georgia F), therefore, dental CT can be done with the frequency that corresponds to a specific clinical situation, without fear of "overexposure".
HOW DANGEROUS IS THE RADIATION LOAD OF CBCT DEVICES?
It is practically safe. Of course, it is not worth abusing radiation. For comparison, the following data can be given. The radiation load during an airplane flight, for example, from Tbilisi to Turkey, is half of the radiation that the patient will receive with a CT scan of both jaws.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN WHICH DEVICE TO DO A CT SCAN ON?
There is. To date, there are several manufacturers of CT scanners that provide their services on the market. The devices themselves are similar in many ways in terms of image quality. The main difference is in the software of the devices and their settings and maintenance.
ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR CT?
A relative contraindication for CT is mental illness and conditions that do not allow the patient to remain motionless during the study. Pregnancy is not a contraindication, however, the study is conducted strictly according to clinical indications, preferably in the second half of pregnancy.
WHICH DENTAL SPECIALISTS NEED A CT SCAN?
To everyone. An implantologist, because only CT allows the doctor to accurately determine the height and thickness of the alveolar process, the structure of bone tissue, that is, to understand how to install the implant correctly and which one to choose specifically.

CT is necessary for therapists to determine additional channels in the teeth, the location of the channels relative to each other, their length, and the size of periapical changes.
HOW DOES AN ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM DIFFER FROM A CT SCAN?
The main differences between CT and OPTG are, firstly, a three—dimensional examination, which allows the doctor to study the object of interest in three planes, at any angle, and secondly, there are no projection distortions on CT images. This means that the size and shape of the teeth will always be the same as that of the patient in the oral cavity, i.e. on a scale of 1:1. This allows the dentist to make a better diagnosis before subsequent treatment.
ARE THE GLANDS VISIBLE IN THE 3D IMAGE?
Salivary glands are not visible on cone beam computed tomography, but it is possible to assess the presence or absence of dense radiopaque inclusions in them (for example, in calculous sialoadenitis).
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO 3D RESEARCH WITH METAL STRUCTURES?
Metal objects are not a contraindication for conducting a study, but their presence causes artifacts that can reduce the diagnostic value of the study, which must be taken into account when analyzing the results of CBCT.

In nuclear energy, a truthful, but rather humorous value is sometimes used: "banana equivalent".
The average banana contains 0.42 g of potassium, some of this potassium is represented by the isotope Potassium-40, which is radioactive.
The equivalent dose of one banana is 0.1 mSv on average. Thus, comparing the ionizing radiation of something with an ordinary banana, it is possible to express the value in "banana equivalent". For example, a picture of a tooth on a visiograph is on average equal to several dozen bananas.

How do I prepare for the procedure?

You will have to undergo an examination on a high-tech CT scanner that meets the highest standards of quality and safety, and qualified medical personnel will help you with this.

Remove all metal objects and jewelry from your head and neck. The presence of crowns and removable structures must be notified to the laboratory assistant in advance.
